lake kegonsa restoration

Stoughton, WI | 2022

MODS provided conceptual planning, site design and construction coordination for the restoration of a private residence on Lake Kegonsa. The project marked a new chapter in this client’s life: moving to be closer to family and seeking to curate a forever home customized to their lifestyle, they found this gem. Having had many previous loved-in years, this home was ready for it’s next evolution.

Timeline:

Planning & design - 6 months
Implementation - building: 7 months, site: 2 months

Approach:

Just like the interior was reconfigured to capture views and reconnect interior spaces, the street side and lakesides were reconfigured to frame views and promote privacy. The front entry gardens now punctuate and define a slow waltz to the front door, framing views to and from the residence. The gardens introduce a mix of grasses, sedges, perennials and outcrop rocks placed on power points for 24-hr and seasonal interest and fantastic views from inside the owner’s home office. The sideyards undulate to draw the eye towards the lake, and bold moves play with asymmetry in the rear yard by offsetting (not centering) the patio, creating a larger entertainment space accompanied by the side gardens.
